Platform House

About the project

A 1950s double brick home transformed with a modern, mid-century charm.

This outstanding renovation transforms a 1950s double brick home into a contemporary haven that honours its original character while embracing modern living. Set on a sloping block, the project began with substantial excavation to create a tranquil guest retreat and a functional lower level featuring a double garage, art studio, and wine cellar. The re-levelled rear of the site allows seamless connection between the kitchen, dining, and living areas and the outdoor spaces, encouraging effortless entertaining and relaxation. A lift servicing all three levels ensures comfort and accessibility throughout the home.

The upper pavilion is a striking showcase of craftsmanship and design, featuring polished concrete floors, recycled Western Red Cedar ceilings, and a bold off-form concrete kitchen bench. Silver travertine adorns the balcony, blending luxury with timeless appeal, while the EQUITONE cladding—crafted from 100% recycled materials—embodies strength and sustainability. Inside, spotted gum flooring and American white oak veneer joinery exude warmth and sophistication. This renovation perfectly balances mid-century charm with modern elegance, resulting in a refined and enduring home built for contemporary living.
